Stainless Steel 304 is the most widely used austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel alloy, containing about 18–20% Chromium and 8–10.5% Nickel. It has a carbon content of up to 0.08%, which gives it good weldability and corrosion resistance. The mechanical properties of 304 include a tensile strength of around 515–750 MPa, a yield strength of approximately 205 MPa, and an elongation of 40% or more, depending on how it’s processed. It also maintains excellent toughness, even at cryogenic temperatures.
